I think speakers of South African English very likely pronounce it that way, but my question was about English speakers in general, who may not recognize it as a word, and thus stumble. Likewise, an English speaker may interpret "brigh" as a nonword pronounced like "bright" without the final t, or as Scottish Gaelic brigh, which I think would have an /iː/ or /i/ coda.
